Technip Burullus Project
This project involved the fabrication of eight subsea templates & manifolds plus eight foundation piles for installation on the Simian and Sapphire oil fields offshore Egypt. When assembled, the templates were in the order of 11m long by 9m wide, each weighing up to 130 ton, and comprised of heavy steel frames providing support and protection to the pipework and valving systems. Much of the pipework and valves were large bore and made of exotic steels to withstand the rigours of deepwater. An extensive onshore trial fit-up programme was carried out at the yard by the Company to ensure that all the components would fit together properly on the seabed, and the availability of a large open outfit area combined with the 180 ton quayside cranes at Wallsend proved invaluable for this task. The completed templates were loaded out onto a transportation barge and seafastened prior to departure.
