Decommissioning

Swan Hunter has been involved in the decommissioning of offshore platforms and structures since 1996 when it undertook decommissioning and disposal of several jackets, bridges and decks on the Conoco Viking A project. The project was undertaken with due regard for all safety and environmental aspects associated with such a scope and the company achieved a level of 99% for recycling or reuse of the platforms.

Components for decommissioning, weighing over 9,500 tons in total, were lifted onto sea-going cargo barges offshore by a large crane vessel, seafastened and transported to land, then offloaded onto our heavy duty quayside using our own wheeled trolley systems. The units were then taken to a bunded area for professional decontamination, dismantling and reclamation.

The company has all the relevant licenses, procedures and working methods for the safe and environmentally friendly dismantling of offshore structures, and is currently extending this experience into ship dismantling projects.
